In today’s fast-paced, digital world, we’re always on the go, always rushing, always working to make ends meet, that in the end, we find ourselves to be too busy, too tired and, sometimes, do not have enough money to volunteer. It’s such a shame because I know that everyone has so much to offer when it comes to making a difference!
But since everybody is always on the Internet, taking selfies and liking Facebook statuses, the brilliant team behind Unilab Foundation, Inc. took this as an opportunity to initiate and amplify positive change through their #healthierPH Volunteer Portal, a digital hub for volunteer opportunities.
It’s an interesting movement and I’m quite honored to be invited, along with other positive influencers and bloggers, by Unilab Foundation, Inc. for an intimate dinner at Sentro 1771 at Capitol Commons to discuss more about this #healthierPH Volunteer Portal.
Ms. Rhodora Palomar-Fresnedi, the Executive Director of Unilab Foundation, Inc., explained to us that their goal is to have a hundred million healthy Filipinos and that is only possible if they have ampfliers or influencers — and that would be us! We are the positive change. She also told us that as bloggers, we make an impact whenever we write, that our writing affects someone.
So what is this portal all about?
This portal has been designed to empower willing volunteers. It’s for people who have the desire to help, regardless of age, gender, profession or socio-economic status. These includes: students who have both time and energy to share, but don’t yet have the resources of expertise; young professionals who have expertise, but not enough time; OFWs who have resources but can’t provide physical presence; seniors who have resources and time, but who might not be able to physically help out; and many more.
In a gist: The #healthierPH Volunteer Portal is a digital volunteer hub for everyone, of any age, gender, status and interests. In fact, if you visit UnilabFoundation.org today, you’ll see that there’s a volunteer opportunity for writers, illustrators, photographers, mothers and even selfie lovers!
One particular volunteer opportunity that I’d like to join is the #HealthIsHappening. We all know that change is only possible through small but consistent actions, so this movement’s aim is to promote the formation of healthy habits.
Basically, all you have to do is choose a healthy activity you’ve always wanted to begin. And you have to commit to the habit for the next 21 consecutive days. The healthy activity could be anything, like going to the gym, learning a new sport or writing on on your gratitude journal every day.
Best of all, this movement is an online contest where you can a chance to win an iPhone 5S this November!
How to Join?
- Register at UnilabFoundation.org and create a Voluntar (volunteer avatar).
- Choose the volunteer project #HealthIsHappening and view the mechanics.
- Follow the mechanics and commit to the habit for the next 21 consecutive days!
If fostering healthier habits is a bit of a challenge, you can still join their other programs like “Instagram That Scene” where you can address health gaps in communities, or join the Play It Forward On The Move, a program that addresses the urgent need for therapeutic play intervention for children who have experienced a traumatic experience.
Like I said earlier, #healthierPH Volunteer Portal is open everyone to make a positive change. So what are you waiting for? Register at UnilabFoundation.org and start building a #healthierPH today!
