Bits & Pieces: Stratford-Upon-Avon

This lovely market town that is situated upon the River Avon (hence the name) is the birthplace of the famous playwright, William Shakespeare. This town is often considered the Mecca of all lovers of English literature.

The first thing we did was claim the tickets for that night’s show. YHA was kind enough to give me a pair of tickets to watch a play at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

On our way there, we met these Steampunk Tourists.

Me, Stephen (YHA Manager of Stratford) and his wife, thought that these people were having a wedding. Apparently, they’re just tourists from the US. If one of them gets lost, it’s easier to find them.

Arriving at the RSC, we saw these costume displays. Most likely a replica of costumes used during Shakespeare’s time and/or what the actors use in different plays.

I’m pretty amazed with the craftsmanship in the good ‘ol days, where everything was handmade and they probably didn’t have electricity yet.

I believe this used a sewing machine, but still! The details!

Both tourists and locals alike are having fun under the sun. A lot of people are having picnics that day.

Since we didn’t have enough time (seriously, why do UK attractions close at 5PM? That’s too early for the summer!), we took the sightseeing bus and these were the things I saw:

It’s so much better to see them with your own eyes. The countryside is simply breathtaking.

They have a lot of Tudor Houses but this one, at the Mary Arden’s Farm, doesn’t have any foundation. If you look look closely at the left side, you’ll notice that it’s sloppy and slanted.
