The Style Mermaid by Kisty Mea • Make fruit salad, ninja-style!
To be honest, food photography is tricky. You need to make the food look really enticing, yummy to the eyes and of course, interesting. But what if it’s just a single fruit? How do you exactly make that single fruit interesting? *wink*
This tutorial was a post by Ian Calimbahin, a 19-year old photographer from Manila. He owns Pinoyshuttr, his personal photo blog with a dosage of interesting tutorials.

The Style Mermaid by Kisty Mea • Learn Something New
Whenever I’m online, I don’t just go to Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter and Gmail. I also read. I browse my favorite blogs, from Mashable to Puglypixel. I also read articles from Yahoo (even if they’re full of Kardashian shit). And I tend to bookmark a lot of sites that might be useful in the near future.
The Internet is already sucking my productivity, so I might as well learn. :) I listed down a few websites that can sharpen your brain and/or skills. Enjoy!

Coursera.org is not just any online course. The courses are absolutely free, covering various topics from Social Sciences to Management and are taught by professors from universities such as Stanford, Princeton, and Brown.I recommend this for anyone who wants to learn or pursue a new field but don’t have the money to do it. Of course, you have to dedicate a lot of time into it (I had to withdraw two of my courses because I was too busy…) and must at least earn 80% to get a certificate of completion.
About.com’s Graphic Design Portfolio Projects is a compilation of different projects you can do to improve your graphic design skill. I got this link from my CSM course classmate. I think it’s good practice for anyone who’s interested in graphic design (ehem, me!). This is my one big to do list.
RedBubble listed down 10 websites and apps that can help you improve your Typography skills. I love Typography, ok. <3 So far, the only thing I’ve tried was Kern Type. Can’t remember my exact score but it was good for the first try. Not all of them are free though, such as Typography Insight cost about $2-4 on iTunes.
Method of Action is the design for the analytical. Not everyone is a designer but this website helps you become one, or at least have an idea which looks nice and which doesn’t. The website is composed of challenges and three people will give their feedback for every challenge you finish. You don’t know who they are and they don’t know who you are. Good practice for accepting criticism, too!
Indie E-Course is an online e-course made for bloggers. Not everyone can attend blog conference in New York (Hello, IFB!), so Elizabeth of Delightfully Tacky created this. You can also check out Red Velvet Shop’s e-courses here, which includes home decor and other art projects. Courses range about $25-$35.
Don’t forget about YouTube! I’ve learned so many things in YouTube and I’m not just talking about different hair styles. With YouTube, I learned how to use my AlienBees flash unit and how to do this certain trick on Photoshop. The tutorials there are endless!
Added as of January 17, 2013: OEDB is stands for open education database. I’m not entirely sure how they work but their featured speaker is Facebook’s very own Mark Zuckerberg!
