A Romantic Dinner at Bar Brasserie OCCO in Amsterdam

I've always wanted to explore the world, share good food, and experience new things with my boyfriend, which is why we always spend our anniversaries going out of town or the country. We have been to Boracay; El Nido; Isla de Gigantes; Singapore; and Tokyo, but all those trips only lasted for a week. It's nearly impossible to do a long term travel with him because his role in his line of work is vital. He, unfortunately, needs to be physically present there to ensure things will work smoothly. And so, the idea of us traveling together for three weeks — and in Europe no less! — is a huge deal.

After all the stress and problems I had to go through to make this Eurotrip happen (I lost my passport in the UK for three weeks!), I wanted to ensure this trip to be special and memorable. And so, on our last night in Europe, we celebrated our journey by having a romantic dinner in one of Amsterdam's finest restaurants, the Bar Brasserie OCCO. The Brasserie is a cosmopolitan restaurant that offers artisanal food and cocktails that are creatively influenced by Dutch cuisine. Located in The Dylan, Amsterdam's luxurious boutique hotel, Brasserie OCCO is an ideal yet casual place to be after a long day of wandering the city's famous attractions, such as the Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum, and Rijksmuseum.

Bar Brasserie OCCO is a change of scenery from the usual touristy spots of Amsterdam. The designers of this restaurant were successful in creating a sense of intimacy through the use of their gorgeous interiors: luxurious velvet sofas, beautiful marble table tops, and modern brass light fixtures. But for the sake of photos for the blog and Instagram, JP and I opted to eat outside where the ambiance has a more relaxed to it. Just your typical #InstagramProblems!

Since Brasserie OCCO is under The Dylan and right beside the Michelin-awarded restaurant, Vinkeles, we expected the price of the food to be way out of the budget. JP and I thought it would cost €100 per food, but to our surprise, the menu selection is quite affordable. Meals would range from €9-25 tops!

Their menu offers a variety of robust dishes that will suit every mood and taste bud. And on that day, I was up for a burger. I was a little embarrassed because we were in a fancy restaurant and I wanted to order a cheeseburger, but the attendant who was taking our order made me feel that my order was totally fine. HAHA!

We ordered a bowl of Creamy Green Pea Soup with mint, marinated bacon, and rye bread; Cheeseburger with fries; Poached peach for dessert and two glass of wine.

JP ordered the Cream Green Pea Soup, and he described it as thick and creamy. I wasn't able to taste his food because I was busy munching their delicious burger. The serving of the big burger for my tiny pouch for a stomach, but the taste just blew me away. The patty was soft and tangy with the right amount of grease that wasn't overpowering or icky. Ugh, the burger was so delicious that just writing about it makes me wanna go back to Amsterdam.

I was so full with my burger, while JP still had room to order dessert. He got himself poached peach with raspberries and ice cream — delicious dessert served in a martini glass. The serving was too tiny to be shared for two and, I guess, it was so delicious that he refused to share. Not even one nibble! I did ask him to describe the taste, though. He said the dessert reminds him of his childhood and the feeling of summertime, where he is biking the fields, playing with his friends.

The taste of what it is like to be carefree.

Looking back, I can't imagine a perfect place to celebrate the mishaps and victories that happened throughout our Euro-trip. And I encourage you to try out their dishes when you're in Amsterdam because the food at Bar Brasserie OCCO is so worth it!
