Wake Up Here: Code Hostel Edinburgh

As a female solo traveler, staying at hostels has always been my top choice for accommodations. I have been to many hostels throughout my trip in Europe, and they all have their different charms and eccentricities that make my stay memorable. Of all the hostels I've been to, however, Code Hostel in Edinburgh, Scotland made quite an impression. Code Hostel is quite a modern hostel, almost entirely like a hostel regarding comfort. I swear it's one of the best hostels I've been to.

HOSTEL OVERVIEW

The hostel has four floors that are named after popular cities: Paris, New York, London, and Edinburgh. Edinburgh is their penthouse that has a flat-screen TV, en suite facilities, and a furnished terrace. Unfortunately, there's no elevator in the building, but the industrial interiors composed of dark bricks, thick steel, and warm hues make up for its absence.

It is centrally located. The location is primarily my concern when choosing a hostel. I prefer to stay at a hostel that's near a train station, preferably, to the central station so that I won't miss my train to my next destination. What I like about Code Hostel is that it is a stone's throw away from Princes Street, the Scott Monument, and Waverley Station, Edinburgh's central station.

The rooms are very modern. Here is where it gets interesting. Code Hostel is the only hostel I've been to that offers pod-style beds instead of the regular bunk beds. It's quite similar to the capsule hotels in Japan, methinks. Each pod comes with their light and power outlet, so you can read a book or surf the net in private.

The shared bathroom is fantastic! I judge a bathroom by its light fixtures and the quality of the tiles they used. Some tiles look so dirty over time, and that would often make me feel the bathroom itself is dirty. Bottomline is, shared bathrooms make me uncomfortable... unless they look as amazing as this one. It's the best hostel bathroom I have ever seen.

They have high ratings in every booking site. There are many factors to consider when I look for an accommodation abroad. Is it safe? Is it a decent-looking place? Is the price per night reasonable? To help me decide, I always check the ratings of a hostel on Agoda and TripAdvisor before paying. Code Hostel received five stars in nearly every booking site available online, which say a lot about them. And my experience with them is proof that they do deserve those five stars.
