Five Mac App Essentials

After six years, I finally bought a brand new laptop! It's a 13" MacBook Pro with Retina Display, early 2015 model, with the highest of specs available in store (not the customizable one that you can order directly from Apple, unfortunately). Quite frankly, my first choice for a laptop is the latest Apple Macbook Pro, the one with the touch bar, but I had to reconsider due to lack of USB port and memory card slot. The world is simply not yet ready to embrace the USB-C port, methinks.

Anyway, since I have a new laptop, I have spent the past few weeks downloading and installing apps that I consider as a necessity. As a multidisciplinary designer and blogger, I simply can't live without these apps:

Adobe Creative Suites

No designer is never without Adobe apps installed on their computers. Since I mainly focus on graphic design, illustrator, and videos (for my travel blog), I have installed the following: Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Acrobat (PDF viewer)

Paragon NTFS

If you're switching from Windows to Mac, Paragon is an absolute must! What the app does is allow Mac users to have a read/write access to NTFS partitions.

As much as I like Apple's built-in media player, QuickTime is not compatible with a lot of video codecs. VLC, on the other hand, is a free app that can playback almost any video format for free and with the right equipments, you can also play ISO files, record live TV, and listen to online radio.

Trend Micro AntiVirus

Although Macs are not susceptible to viruses, it's still nice to have one. The Trend Micro AntiVirus is the only AV that I've tried that works. Subscription isn't free and costs $20/year, but that's hella cheap when compared to other antivirus software out there.

I try my best to follow a very strict folder organization and this app is a game changer. What the app do is rename a batch of files with just one click. Totally useful for those DSCxxx.jpg photos!

Bonus: Grammarly

Grammarly is the world's best grammar checker, I swear! It's a browser extension that will help you improve your grammar, vocabulary, and spelling. No more mistakes when sending those important emails! ;)
