Wake Up Here: Vagabonds Hostel Belfast
Vagabonds Hostel is a well-loved hostel in Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland. So loved that hostel garnered a 9.2 rating on Hostelworld, a 4.6 star on Google, and even acquired the title of being the #1 hostel in Belfast on TripAdvisor. With the incredible hospitality and casual atmosphere of the hostel, it's no brainer why people love it here. I even found myself not wanting to leave... literally and figuratively. An embarrassing moment happened while I was here, but Richard, the owner of the hostel, was very accommodating despite my travel mishap.
Willkommen! Aloha! Bienvenue! and a colorful world of graffiti and art will greet you upon entering. The hostel, unfortunately, doesn't have any elevator but the stairs are part of the casual charm.
When you turn left from the entrance, you'll see a living room with a big map and several computers. This is a reception and common area for guests. The map, by the way, has been pinned by previous hostel guests.
From the other side of the main entrance is another door that leads to the common area and dining area. Here you can chat with the other guests, read a book, or even watch a TV.
Free breakfast! Breakfast is consists of tea, coffee, toasts, jam preserves, and cereals.
Love the minimalist design of these posters. Antrim vs. Cork!
This is my bunk composed of a simple but comfortable bed, thick blanks to keep me warm, and a small container for my things. I spent most of my days here, sleeping as I recover from jet lag.
They have several bathrooms for guests to use. This is one of them.
I wasn't able to explore this area of the hostel because the weather was still unforgiving at the time of my visit. This photo is the only reason why I went out.
Now here's the embarrassing part: I thought I was staying for four nights, only to discover that I only made a booking for three nights. I was so embarrassed because the owner woke me up, informing me of the situation. Thankfully, he was cool about it and helped me book a bed in another hostel nearby because Vagabonds was fully booked for the night.
Another thing that happened while I was here is that I nearly lost my phone!!!!! I was packing my stuff in the common area and accidentally left my phone on the sofa. I discovered that my phone was missing the next day, and by that time, recovering a lost iPhone seems like a farfetched idea. When I dropped by at the hostel, I was surprised that they found the phone and kept it safe. Oh, the incredible kindness of strangers! <3
What I like about Vagabonds Hostel is that the environment is so chill and casual. I felt like I was a home away from home. The hostel created a comfortable yet beautiful mess where people can socialize and interact with one another. You will feel like you belong. Another thing that's good to know is that there are surveillance cameras, assuring the safety of the guests and the location is relatively close from the main attractions of Belfast that you won't have a hard time exploring the city by foot.
