Wake Up Here: Hostel de Draecke in Gent, Belgium

One of the things I look for in a hostel is location. It needs to be centrally located or near a station that will bring me to the attractions of the city.  There are many hotels who offer this but they are either too expensive or unkept. Fortunately, Hostel de Draecke in Gent is not one of them. It's a spacious, comfortable, and chill hostel that's located right in the heart of the city. It's a few minutes away from the renowned moated castle that is Gravensteen and other attractions.

Let me give you a quick room tour.

Check-in time is only until 11 PM. Contact them if you are arriving late.

JP and I accidentally missed our stop and ended up in Brussels. We either stay in Brussels for the night or catch the last train to Gent. We did the latter and arrived at the hostel past midnight. The check-in has already been closed by this time, but since I informed them a few days before arrival, they gave me instructions on how to get the key.

There's no elevator.

Having no elevators shouldn't be a problem for most travelers. In my case, I wish they had one. I'm just glad I have a keeper like my boyfriend who brought all four luggage up to the third floor. What a keeper. :P

Other hostels have very small rooms, making it a stuffy and uncomfortable place to stay in. Hostel de Draecke is not one of those hostels. Just take this six-bedroom dormitory, it's so airy and spacious. We even have a table in the middle!

Each bunk comes has their own reading lamp and electric plug.

Ensuite Bathrooms.

Another thing I like about this hostel is that every room comes with an ensuite bathroom and shower. I love ensuite bathrooms because you can have a bit of privacy while taking a shower.
