Wake Up Here: Yellow Brick Hostel Seoul

The biggest concern of many female travel is safety. Will I be able to sleep at night feeling safe? Is the hotel/hostel located in a safe neighborhood?  This, admittedly, was my problem before visiting Seoul last October. Safe to say, I'm still alive, and there was never a rude moment with the Koreans. All of the people I interacted with were nice! Tucked between the Insadong and Changdeokgung Palace area, the people of Yellow Brick Hostel were kind enough to cover my accommodation during my trip. I couldn't find the hostel on Google Street View because the Google Team doesn't cover side streets and the photo showing was taken in 2009. Luckily, the hostel provided a quick and easy set of instructions on how to get there. My only tip, however, is to refrain from bringing a luggage or it's going to be a really long walk.

If the name wasn't a dead giveaway yet, the hostel was designed after the concept of the yellow brick road from The Wizard of Oz. It's a cute and warm hostel, albeit empty at the time of visit. Mid-October, apparently, is not a very popular season for tourists. I'm appalled! Seoul is beautiful during October!

The staff of Yellow Brick Hostel booked me for 2 nights in their 8-bedroom dormitory and another 2 nights in a single room. That way, travelers who are still uncomfortable sleeping with 6 or 7 other strangers will know what a single room looks like. While not all hostels offer single rooms, this may help travelers to reconsider hostels as their form of accommodation.

In my opinion, the 8-bedroom dormitory is really small for big people. I don’t think the lack of bigger space in rooms should come off as a surprise because that’s the whole reason why hostels were created. I just think that if you’re a tall person, the 8-bedroom dormitory might not work for you. Since I’m petite, the room space was sufficient — not too small to say I’m being suffocated, not too big to do a full LOTD self-portrait. The en-suite bathroom, however, was pretty spacious and clean. I like spacious bathrooms.

I had the loveliest time at Yellow Brick Hostel, but I'm going to let the photos do the talking.
